We can’t deny that we have been learning so much about social media recently and ironically enough, a lot of that information is being soaked in through social media. Social media is deeply ingrained in many categories of our lives and it is up to us to decipher what our relationship with social media should look like. The Netflix documentary, “The Social Dilemma” has been sweeping the world by storm and everyone has a whole lot to say about it.
We’re not here to focus on pros and cons of social media, statistics, or any politics surrounding the tech industry. Let’s just be real and honest here – while you’re reading this. Have you ever thought about your relationship with social media?
There has been an interesting shift in the world’s complex relationship with social media and here’s some pointers for how to keep your relationship with social media on the healthy side.
1.Stop mindless scrolling
Taking that index finger and continuously scrolling as though there won’t be anything to look at tomorrow or that you’ll miss something in the meantime. It’s simply become a habit that you don’t need.
2. Pay Attention
Pay attention to how you react to certain posts or accounts that you follow. Does your stomach feel off? Are your palms sweaty? Are your eyes doing the heart eye thing? Make sure that what you allow yourself to be exposed to positively influences your day (physically & mentally).
3. Unfollow & Follow
Unfollow those that no longer serve a positive purpose on your feed or in your life. Follow the ones who do. Don’t be afraid to hit that unfollow button – it’s only a big deal if you make it one.
4. Take A Break
We won’t take it personally. We want you to do what’s best for you – even though TBC content is pretty awesome (we’re not biased). A break can be:
-Turning off your phone when you decide to
-Uinstalling apps
-Logging out for “x” amount of time
-Taking a break on certain days or times
Maybe you just need to reconnect with how you connect.
