Born to be a fighter, Andres “the Destroyer” Ruiz Jr., is the first boxer of Mexican heritage to become a world heavyweight champion. Now, with an upcoming rematch on December 7th against Anthony Joshua set, Andy Ruiz Jr. made his TBC debut on October 19th with a press conference, open workout, and meet-and-greet.

Ruiz was born in Imperial, CA, with his first passion being baseball; however, his father, Andy Sr., had other plans.Ruiz’s father got him into boxing at a young age, with his first fight at age 7 in San Diego. Ruiz Sr. saw his vision for his son become a reality when Ruiz Jr. began his amateur career in Mexico with 105-5 record and became the only boxer in their family. Instead of continuing his amateur career, Ruiz went pro at just 19-years old and made his U.S. debut a couple of years later.

In 2013, Ruiz took his first major step-up in competition by fighting and dominating Joe Hanks. Ruiz won his next five bouts, climbing to the top of the ranks and with a shot at a world title within arm’s reach. On December 10th, 2016, Ruiz faced Joseph Parker for the WBO World Heavyweight Championship. Each fighter had their share of moments in this fight, with two judges scoring 113-115 for Parker resulting in Parker’s controversial victory and the world title. Since then, Ruiz has come back stronger than ever with two wins.
