Keto, plant-based, pescatarian, vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free, paleo, there are SO many different food and diet trends going around, and new ones popping up everyday. It can be overwelming and confusing to figure out what is healthy for you. Truth is, everyone has a different reaction to foods and there is no one-size fits all diet. However, we came across an interesting way of eating that is regaining popularity in the health world. Food combining, have you heard of it? A majority of people suffer from bloating after they finish eating a meal and many believe that food combining is the key to fight it!
The main idea:
To break it down in the shortest way possible, you are only allowed to eat certain types of food together. For example, you can only eat proteins with non-starchy vegetables or other proteins (no starches or nuts). You can only pair starches with vegetables or other starches (no protein or nuts). Vegetables are considered a “neutral” food and can be paired with anything. Nicole Berrie, a health blogger and coach, explains it in a very simple table. Once you get used to eating this way and learn what pairs best with each other, food combining can be really easy. The reason it is supposed to work is because different foods digest at different and eating these kinds of combinations are supposed to compliment the digestive process.
Why you should try it:
It is said that food combining will help with inflammation, detox the body, reduce bloating, give more energy, promote weight-loss, and clear skin. The part we love the most about this type of eating is that there is no calorie counting or restrictive eating. You can still eat foods you enjoy! Many of you probably already eat similar to this without event knowing it, so it will be an easy transtion.Try it out and let us know if you feel or see a difference.
